  • Dental curettage helps remove the dead gum tissues, which otherwise can lead to infection, bad breath, and loss of underlying jawbone. The removal of this dead aids in development of healthy gums.

When is dental curettage needed?

Dental curettage is recommmended in the following circumstances:

  • Loss of the bone under the gums
  • Infection and swelling of gum
  • Prior to an open flap surgery
  • Presence of a pocket formed by the separation of gums from the teeth.

What does the procedure comprise of?

    Dental curettage can be a 2 to 4 step procedure depending on the severity of the case..

  • Step 1: Removal of the dead and diseased tissue
  • Step 2: Flushing of the area with saline solution to remove blood clots and any remaining diseased tissue
  • Step 3: Stitchesin the area, if required
  • Step 4: Placement of a dressing in the area, if required
